U.S. Diplomat Dean I. Chang in Hot Water in Philippines

Is there U.S. trouble in Pacific paradise?  Philippine media outlets are ensensed at the Korean-American reportedly working at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.  Ramon Tulfo of the Philippine Inquirer asks, “Police cowed by abusive, arrogant diplomat?”

Several others label Chang, who Magnumasi tried to find a picture of, “the Ugly American”, including Tulfo, who reported earlier this month,

A Korean-American who holds a top position at the US Embassy shouted invectives at a young Filipino woman whom he nearly bumped with his car last Friday.

Dean I. Chang, the American Embassy’s second secretary, cursed Princess Cordova, 22, after he got out of his Toyota Forerunner car with a Korean-looking woman, apparently his wife.

“You’re a bitch, you’re a bitch!,” Chang was heard shouting at the shocked Cordova who was crossing the driveway of a Korean restaurant on Jupiter Street, Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City.

These are certainly not the actions of diplomacy.  One surmises they were already late for their reservation and Princess got in the way.  According to the Inquirer story, Princess’s uncle, who is an advertising exec, was waiting inside the restaurant destination and later told his niece to apologize.  Apparently, when she did, Chang allegedly threatened to run over her again.  All of this over a little galbi?

Now this is not going away until there is an apology, we surmise.
